Poor Appetite when Weather is Hot?
Hot weather may spoil your appetite. You may use colourful ingredients
and food with a higher moisture content or of a softer texture to boost your
appetite (e.g. gourds, tofu, fish).
On the other hand, there are lots of seasonal fruits in summer. As they all
taste fresh and have a unique aroma, you may use them more as side ingredients
to boost your appetite. However, not all fruits are suitable for cooking with meat
because of their texture and taste (e.g. persimmons, bananas, guavas).
Dietitian’s Reminder
Are Fruits and Vegetables Interchangeable?
Fruits and vegetables are not interchangeable as they contain different nutrients.
Vegetables, when cooked, will lose some water-soluble and non-heat resistant vitamins (e.g.
vitamin C and folate) but fruits can preserve more of these nutrients as they are usually served
uncooked.
